The Future of Work with AI

AI (Artificial Intelligence) has created a technological revolution that will change the way we work, relate to one another, and help us help those we serve. The integration of AI into the workplace is an inevitable shift that promises to reshape the future of work. AI is a tool of innovation that drives efficiency, creativity, and productivity for the workplace. This blog will explore how your organization will re-define their business model to be able to support the technical underpinnings to make AI work for you.

A brief history of AI

Let us take a quick look at AI that has shown up over the last couple of years with the intent to deliver information quickly.

Chatbots

Due to fear and some misunderstandings, not everyone has access to these tools. Think of Chatbots as a way for you to have a conversation with networked computers, data, and the Internet to quickly find information such as text and images. Using machine learning and training, these databases are created and maintained to help organize the data in a way that you and these Chatbots can interact with each other to find what you are looking for.

AI Relies on Historical Data

Machine Learning (ML) is just part of AI. ML focuses on using data and algorithms to enable AI to imitate the way humans learn and gradually improve its accuracy. It involves creating models that can predict outcomes, categorize information, and make decisions without human intervention, hence the term machine learning.

ML is a way that AI systems can perform complicated tasks by learning from data rather than being required to be specifically programmed.

Large Language Models (LLM) collect data by using ML to improve their interactions with humans. They go through training to learn language patterns, grammar, and facts about the world with some reasoning abilities. LLMs are integrated into chatbots to enhance the AI user experience based on past events, trends, and behaviors. Large Language Models (LLMs) use machine learning techniques to improve and refine their responses based on interactions, including those from people like you.

The Key is Machine Learning (AI) Readiness

Organizations will need to update their business models for AI readiness by redefining their strategic objectives to make AI technologies part of their strategies. This means a thoughtful integration of AI into current processes, training employees, hiring, or consulting with AI professionals, and addressing security concerns. Companies may also redesign their databases and develop new business models based on machine learning deployment, ensuring that AI initiatives align with the organization's goals and enhance customer service – and that is where you come in. Customer service is the human connection.

Examples

Here is a list of companies that are underway, not only to offer AI, but also to utilize AI for their own business and customer services.

  •  UPS
  • Alibaba
  • IBM Watson
  • Google Cloud ML
  • Encore (Microsoft Azure) ML
  • AWS (Amazon Cloud) ML

AI can be copied; Humans are not.

  • Business model – designed and maintained by people
  • Processes your organization follows
  • Thoughtful integration of people
  • Customer Service

The New Competitive Advantage: People

The Human Mind

In the future of work, people will need to be familiar with AI tools with a basic understanding of machine learning and the new business model that is created. It will take the human mind to be sure the data that is returned by any AI tools is accurate and complete. AI is a tool and is going to streamline your research, not necessarily do the research for you. The more you know about how AI does its job, the better you will be at doing yours.

Critical Thinking

The best way for you to be able to utilize AI and the data it shows you is to become good at critical thinking. There are three keys to doing so:

  •  Analysis of Facts, NOT opinions
  • Question the data – search deeper
  • Logical thought to solve problems

Human Decision Intelligence

Using data and rigorous decision making is how you will do your work moving forward in the world of AI. Making high quality choices based on combining AI, critical thinking, and human behavior.

Imagine AI Just for You!

An AI tool should be designed and implemented to serve up answers just for you and your work. This is why it is important that organizations – starting now – redesign and redeploy their business models to use AI and not just through the new tool at existing ways of doing business.

Challenge: Order at a Restaurant

A customer ordered our special of the day. They allow for substitutions to deliver a better customer experience. Let us say the customer would like a vegan, dairy-free version of the daily special. Instead of the usual, no substitutions, this restaurant not only allows for, but encourages substitutions.

Result

Chef uses their AI tool and tablet to find the ingredients for a new recipe. Because their data has used the new business model to support subs, the machines have been trained and used machine language to provide this data. The machine learning used learns the new meal as a new vegan, dairy-free recipe. The restaurant delivers the new recipe, so the customer receives their desired order and now, the restaurant markets this feature and grows their reach to people who want a vegan and dairy free choice. Scenario

Someone calls who needs your help. You use your custom-built AI tool to find an answer. Not only do you find the answer, but you also help them decide what is best for them based on their history, combined with your experience and your human knowledge. Now you can focus on customer service, “not busy work” Over time, that scenario, the answer, and how you helped them, is learned and accessible to everyone. Hence the term “Machine Learning” and YOU helped teach the machines. That is AI!

Cautions

Beware of AI “Drift” also known as AI hallucinations. That is where YOU come in! AI hallucinations are data returned by AI that is incorrect. The data models were either not trained correctly or people provided incorrect feedback. This is why it is so important to keep the human factor involved with decision making. AI is a tool to help you. You still need to do the real work of delivering customer satisfaction.

Efficiencies and Productivity

In summary, AI is a tool, not a replacement for human intelligence. The future is in people using AI for data to help us make the best decisions for those we serve. People use their skills to determine how to use the results provided by AI.
